Redefining classical music through captivating solo performances, dynamic chamber collaborations, and visionary artistic direction.
At just twenty years old, Alberto Agut made his international debut in Baia Mare, Romania, marking the beginning of what has become an extraordinary thirteen-year career. Since that moment, he has captivated audiences across Europe and North America, performing with renowned orchestras and establishing himself as one of the most exciting clarinetists of his generation. Agut has broken barriers as the first Spanish clarinetist to hold a residency with an internationally recognized orchestra, and his appointment as Artist in Focus for Camerata Nordica’s 2024/2025 season, coinciding with the ensemble’s 50th anniversary, is a testament to his growing influence in the classical world.
What truly sets Agut apart is his visionary approach to concert programming. His projects fuse music and storytelling in innovative ways, creating performances that are as educational as they are emotionally resonant. In 2023, his project “Spanish Dances” toured Sweden, combining narration and music to explore the rich tapestry of Spanish history, with new works by David Moliner. His 2024 project, “Baroque Journey,” showcased the clarinet’s versatility in early music, while his upcoming “Rhythms of Europe” will celebrate the vibrant musical traditions that define the continent’s cultural diversity.
Through his collaborations with composers like David Moliner, Agut continually pushes the boundaries of the clarinet repertoire, bridging the gap between the past and the present. His ability to craft concert experiences that deeply engage and inspire audiences makes him a true innovator in classical music, offering a fresh perspective that draws listeners into the heart of the art form.
In addition to his solo career, Agut is a highly accomplished chamber musician, collaborating with renowned artists such as Alban Gerhardt, Gergana Gergova, Francisco Fullana, and members of leading European and American orchestras. He has shared the stage with prestigious ensembles like the Casals Quartet, David Oistrakh Quartet, Nordic Chamber Ensemble, and Madrid Chamber Orchestra.
His chamber music engagements have taken him to major international festivals across Europe and the United States, where he skillfully interprets a broad repertoire, ranging from baroque clarinet arrangements to contemporary compositions. These collaborations highlight his versatility and refined musical insight, enabling him to create profound connections with fellow musicians and deliver compelling, dynamic performances.
Beyond his performance career, Agut is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians and expanding the reach of classical music in his two hometowns.
In 2013, he founded the Castelló Music Festival, quickly establishing it as one of Spain’s premier cultural events. As Artistic Director, he brings international artists to the stage while championing local talent and premiering new compositions.
In Los Angeles, Agut serves as Executive and Artistic Director of the California Music Society (CMS), where he leads both the California Music Festival and the CMS Annual Season. These projects combine world-class performances with educational opportunities for young musicians, offering masterclasses and professional development. Through these initiatives, Agut showcases his dedication to both preserving the classical music tradition and driving its innovation for future generations.
